People come and go but horses leave hoof prints in our hearts”

This last year 2021, has been a terrible year not just for us but for everyone. There is a hay crisis here in Alberta and it has been one of the worst years yet. There is so many older senior horses being given away or being sold at meat price, it breaks my heart to see so many unwanted horses. I wish we could go save them all but with barely enough hay to get us to spring we have do do the responsible thing and not take in more then we can handle. We are more then willing to still help and if you have a sore crippled old horse please instead of giving them away let them die with dignity. If you or someone you know has a horse like this and cant afford to put them down I would be more then willing to help, no judgement our gates are always open. I am so afraid what we are going to see this spring coming to auctions.

The horse's need our help more then ever. We still managed to save some this year, but not as many as we wanted. The auctions were very far and only a few. Meat buyers were more ruthless then I have ever seen them before, paying insane amounts for foals and old crippled horses it was extremely hard to compete with them.

Hello and welcome to the Last Chance Horse Rescue Home page! Although many horse's go for slaughter we try our hardest to save some. Especially the younger ones and the older ones.

We started our rescue a couple months after a freak accident claimed the life of our horse Chester in august 2005. We had no money saved up to buy a new horse, so we went to a horse sale to bid on a cheaper one. And what we found was perfectly good horse's going for meat!. That day we brought home a lot more then just a broke horse, we brought home an overwhelming desire to try and help the horse's that could not speak for themselves. A bunch of weanling's also got a ride home with us. Sadly we could not bring all of the horse's back with us.

All we can do now is try to save some more of these lost soul's. On our site you will find many horse's that have been rescued and are awaiting placement in new loving & responsible homes. If you see a horse that you like, please contact us for pricing if not yet listed. We do take deposits on our horse's but we ask for $5 a day for feed. We do also ask that horse's be paid in full and removed from our farm within one month from the time the deposit is left. We have a lot of horse's coming in that need our help, so hence we need all of the room we can get. We do not board horse's here, we are sorry for this inconvenience.

Please note " All prices are subjected to GST "

Feel free to look around on are site and if you have any questions or comments please email them to us!

We are now offering sponsor a life!  We have some of the horse's available on our Rescue Horse's page, roughly it cost us $150.00 a month per horse to feed them this does not cover the cost for farrier or vet care. You may pick a horse to care for and we will send you their picture and update you on how they are doing, you may also come out and visit this horse! Please email us to get anymore info.

We are a family owned/operated Rescue and Rehabilitation center, currently we can not provide tax receipt's but are working towards being able to provide these for people in the future.
